Editing is easy

For people who like instructions and manuals, start here. But the editing is so easy, why not just have a go?

If you are not confident about the formatting techniques, have a look at the articles already made, and copy those.

There are also already a few pre-made templates, to make some text automatically. See E-M78 and compare to Template:Clade. See V12 and compare to Template:UEP. (You can also change and make new templates.)

Just click on "edit". But please...

  1. Register as a User if you are going to edit. (See the top right hand of your screen.) Make yourself at home! This gives you some personal space also where editors can send message about the latest edits you are working on, or try things out using "Sandboxes". Here is an example: User:Andrew Lancaster.
  2. Also, please make full use of the talk or discussion pages which every Wiki page has. But sign your remarks on those pages please. There is a button you can click to do this in the editing screen, or else type in --~~~~
  3. Do not experiment on the articles themselves if you can avoid it. There is a "fake" article called Sandbox where you can try things out. (You can also make your own personal Sandbox once you register and make a User space for yourself.)

You can use the work you have already done, and let others add to it

Many utilities exist online for easy conversion from such formats as Excel, HTML etc.

See for example: this useful webpage

An example reference

We have a special article titled Bibliography which we can use for making all references, in ANY articles.

To cite "Cruciani et al. (2007)" please edit as follows:

"Cruciani et al. ([[Bibliography#CITEREFCruciani et al.2007|2007]])".

...or (particularly useful if you are copying from a Wikipedia article)...

"{{Harvcoltxt|Cruciani et al.|2007}}"

BOTH will give:

"Cruciani et al. (2007)".

(The name of the author then has to be exactly as in the Bibliography.)

NOTE: if anyone looking at the wiki mark-up can see a neater way to do the citing on this wiki, please advise!

Remember to also cite webpages when you use them. Mention the access date.
