Talk:Main Page
From Haplowiki
I think the intention will be to make the main page much simpler eventually, with links to things like editing advice and categories of page that might be important. However for the start up phase my idea was to put advice where it can not be missed.--Andrew Lancaster 08:14, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
This website is a really great idea. I do hope people will start contributing all the data they have to it. I think we need well designed datatables to be updated with sourced materials. I don't have any imaging software, but new and improved maps can be developed from the updated data in these tables. Most importantly of all it is crucial that no one forgets Haplogroup research is nothing more than "Lineage Research". It does not tell us so much about nations but about the popularity of particular lineages among the opposite sex in a particular region. It is important in the case of Y-Haplogroups to consider wars with rape and pillage, the right of "first night", dynastic prestige, dynastic wealth, ability to survive through local mortality rates, prolific progenity, etc.. Popular folklore can tell us a lot about the popularity of a particular lineage as can information from historical accounts, if a correlating pattern can be found between these and the haplogroup trees discovered. We should also promote alternative explanations by thinking outside of the box as much as possible. I hope this will progress :) Kaz 10:28, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
